Electrical Engineer (Full time position)
Description:
Design electrical systems (including power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm) for commercial, industrial, and retail buildings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing all deliverables throughout the design, construction, and close-out process (bid, level, award, shop drawings, submittals, construction walk-throughs, reviewing test results, as-built drawings)
- Experience in both normal and emergency power distribution systems design
- Experience in lighting design and photometric calculations and controls
- Analysis and evaluation of existing client and building electrical systems and infrastructure
- Compile a written high-level report on existing systems, code concerns, and recommendations for improvements based on existing conditions and/or proposed space plan for submission to client.
- The candidate must have excellent client interfacing skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with all levels of management
- The ability to put together coordinated drawings sets (SD’s, DD’s, CD’s) and specification documents inclusive of floor layouts, outlet circuiting, elevations, labelling details, lighting control schematics, power distribution one line diagrams, equipment room layouts, wire sizing, generator sizing, switchgear design, panel schedules and calculations, fire alarm design/layout, etc.
- Ability to perform arc fault and short circuit coordination study
- Schematic diagrams and grounding system design
- Assist with LEED accreditation requirements for electrical systems
- Coordination with project architect and other engineering disciplines
- Ability to travel to job sites and verify existing infrastructure throughout the United States
Qualifications and Credentials:
- 6+ years of electrical design experience (designing, delivering, and supporting large enterprise customers)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field from and ABET accredited program
- Professional engineering license (preferred but not required)
- Knowledge, interpretation, and application of the National Electric Code, NFPA standards, energy codes, and other applicable regulations
- Member of industry organizations IEEE, IES, NFPA (preferred but not required)
- Requires the use of Microsoft office programs, AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Mechanical (HVAC and Plumbing) Engineer (Full time position)
Description:
Design mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) systems (including airside equipment/distribution, waterside equipment/distribution, domestic cold/hot water systems/distribution, sanitary/storm systems, process/medical gas systems, and fire sprinkler pre-action system and head layout) for commercial, industrial, and retail buildings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing all deliverables throughout the design, build, and close-out process (bid, level, award, shop drawings, submittals, construction walk-throughs, reviewing test results, as-built drawings)
- Experience in both airside and waterside design (wide variety of system types)
- Experience using load calculation software (Trace 3D, HAP, Revit)
- Analysis of existing client and building mechanical and plumbing systems
- Compile a written high-level report on existing systems, code concerns, and recommendations for improvements based on existing conditions and/or proposed space plan for submission to client.
- The candidate must have excellent client interfacing skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with all levels of management.

Structured Cabling Designer (Full time position)
Description:
Design telecommunications cable pathways and infrastructure to support IT based systems including Voice, Data, Wi-Fi, Audio Visual, CCTV, Access Control, and Intrusion Detection.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing all deliverables throughout the design, build, and close-out process (bid, level, award, shop drawings, submittals, construction walk-thru’s, reviewing test results, as-built drawings)
- Experience in hierarchical network design strategies
- Participate in all aspects of the infrastructure acceptance process
- Analysis of existing client and building telecommunications infrastructure
- The ability to assemble professional documents based on existing templates, ability to provide accurate job descriptions with needed hours for completion
- The candidate must have excellent client interfacing skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with all levels of management
- The ability to put together coordinated drawings sets (SD’s, DD’s, CD’s) and specification documents inclusive of floor layouts, outlet numbering, elevations, labelling details, wiring schematics, pull schedules, rack/switch layout, and server room layout
- Analysis of the customer technical documentation and proposes a design for the system
- Schematic diagrams and grounding system design
- Familiarity with current industry material lead times and availability
- Coordination with project architect and other engineering disciplines
- Ability to travel to job sites and verify existing infrastructure throughout the United States
Experience and Skills:
- 5+ years structured cabling design experience (designing, delivering, and supporting cabling solutions for data, voice and video applications for large enterprise customers)
- 2+ Project management experience (preferred but not required)
Senior Project Architect (Level III)
HSB is seeking a Senior Project Architect with at least 8 years of relevant experience. This position would involve participating in conceptual design and providing full support throughout the entire project. The candidate would serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on specialized systems and lead all technical aspects of a project. The candidate would liaise with project management, other architects, consultants, and HSB’s team of in-house MEP Engineers. In our growing firm, a senior architect is also expected to help mentor emerging professionals in the office and offer your experience in QA/QC without being prompted. Applicants should be motivated self-starters who can take on project responsibility and grow with our firm. Work examples and skills assessment will be required at your interview.

HSB has intern and co-op Architects, Designers and Engineers in our office year-round. We have a well-established intern training program and work closely with students from many of the area’s universities.
